Moving from WooCommerce to Shopify
WooCommerce is a WordPress plugin, so your store data is spread across posts, postmeta, taxonomies and plugin tables. That is both an advantage and a trap: almost everything is accessible, but the meaning of a field often depends on which plugin wrote it. We read the actual database rather than trusting a generic export.
A WooCommerce store is usually more than a catalog. Blog posts, landing pages, ACF-driven content and SEO metadata from Yoast or Rank Math are part of the value, and they need a home on Shopify — blog articles, pages, metafields and theme sections respectively.
Variable products are the main technical difference. WooCommerce allows unlimited attributes and variations; Shopify does not. We audit variation counts early so the catalog design is agreed before migration, not improvised.

WooCommerce to Shopify migration considerations
These are the differences that decide how your new store is structured. We settle each one with you during discovery, before any data moves.
- Variable products vs Shopify variants
- WooCommerce has no practical attribute limit. Shopify allows three options per product with a variant cap. We list every product that exceeds it and agree the approach — product splits, metafields or an app — before migrating.
- Plugin-owned data
- Subscriptions, bookings, memberships, custom fields and bundles live in plugin tables. Each needs its own extraction plan and a Shopify app or app-based replacement, which we scope during discovery.
- Blog, pages and permalinks
- WordPress permalinks such as /shop/product/ or dated post URLs differ from Shopify's /products/ and /blogs/ paths. We migrate the content and cover the old paths with 301 redirects.
- SEO metadata from Yoast or Rank Math
- Titles, meta descriptions and canonical intent stored by your SEO plugin are extracted and applied to the Shopify equivalents, so pages do not launch with auto-generated metadata.
- Checkout, tax and payment behaviour
- Woo's flexible checkout hooks, tax plugins and gateways change on Shopify. We document what behaviour is native, what needs an app, and what genuinely changes for your customers.
- Media volume and image handling
- Large WordPress media libraries hold many generated sizes. We move the originals Shopify needs and skip the clutter, keeping the new store fast.

WooCommerce to Shopify migration FAQ
Will my blog posts and SEO metadata come across?
Yes. Posts move into a Shopify blog with authors and publish dates, static pages become Shopify pages, and titles and meta descriptions from Yoast or Rank Math are applied to the matching Shopify records. Old WordPress URLs get 301 redirects.
What happens to WooCommerce subscriptions or memberships?
Subscription and membership data lives in plugin tables and needs a matching Shopify app to receive it. Some apps support importing active subscriptions, others require customer re-authorisation for billing. We confirm what is possible with your specific plugins and apps before quoting.
Can you migrate without taking my WooCommerce store offline?
Yes. We migrate into a Shopify store that is not yet public, validate there, then run a short cutover where the final orders and customers are synced and DNS is switched. Your WooCommerce store keeps taking orders until that window.
Do you migrate refunds and partial orders?
Order records including refunds, taxes and shipping are migrated as historical data so your reporting and support history stay complete. Refunds are not re-issued through Shopify Payments — they remain part of the record.
