Moving from Shopify to PrestaShop
PrestaShop's data model is closer to Magento's than Shopify's: products carry attributes that generate combinations, plus features for descriptive specs, all stored per language. Coming from Shopify's simpler variant model, the migration is mostly an expansion — deciding which Shopify options become PrestaShop attributes and which product data becomes features.
Language handling is the second big difference. PrestaShop treats language as a first-class dimension with its own URLs and per-language fields. If you run a translation app on Shopify, we plan how that content lands in PrestaShop's language tables rather than discovering it after launch.
As with any move to a self-hosted platform, hosting, payment modules and backups become yours. We migrate into a staging PrestaShop install, validate the catalog and orders there, and only then plan the cutover.

Shopify to PrestaShop migration considerations
These are the differences that decide how your new store is structured. We settle each one with you during discovery, before any data moves.
- Variants become attributes and combinations
- PrestaShop generates combinations from attribute groups, each with its own reference, price impact and stock. We map Shopify's option1/2/3 values into clean attribute groups instead of creating one-off attributes per product.
- Features vs attributes
- Descriptive data (material, capacity, compatibility) belongs in PrestaShop features, not attributes. Splitting these correctly keeps faceted search useful and product pages readable.
- Multi-language and multi-shop
- PrestaShop stores names, descriptions and URL slugs per language. We decide which languages launch, where translated content comes from, and whether multistore is needed for separate markets.
- URL structure and redirects
- Shopify's /products/ and /collections/ paths become PrestaShop's configurable friendly URLs, often with ID segments. We choose a scheme, then redirect every old Shopify URL to it with 301s.
- Apps become modules
- Shopify app functionality — reviews, subscriptions, upsells, page builders — has to be replaced with PrestaShop modules or custom development. We inventory apps first so the launch is not missing features.
- Hosting, payments and maintenance
- You take on the server, payment modules, SSL, backups and updates. We advise on sizing, configure caching, and make sure a rollback plan exists before the cutover.

Shopify to PrestaShop migration FAQ
How do Shopify variants map to PrestaShop?
Each Shopify option becomes a PrestaShop attribute group and each variant becomes a combination with its own reference, price impact, stock and image. We reuse shared attribute groups across products so your back office stays manageable.
Can I launch with more than one language?
Yes. PrestaShop supports per-language product fields and URLs natively. During discovery we confirm which languages you want, where the translated copy comes from (an existing Shopify translation app, your team, or a translator) and how the per-language URLs and hreflang tags will be set up.
Will my Shopify SEO survive the move?
That is the point of planning it up front. We keep titles, meta descriptions and slugs where PrestaShop allows, build a complete 301 redirect map from your Shopify URLs, and check the new store's canonical tags, sitemap and robots rules before launch.
Do I need new hosting before we start?
You will need hosting for PrestaShop, and we can advise on sizing based on your catalog and traffic. We normally build on a staging environment first, so hosting can be finalised in parallel with the migration work.
